Warwick Davis Calls Harry Potter Series "Very Faithful" to Books
Warwick Davis Returns as Professor Flitwick in HBO’s New Harry Potter Series
Warwick Davis, the BAFTA award-winning actor known for his iconic role as Professor Filius Flitwick in the original Harry Potter film series, has returned to the magical world of Hogwarts. This time, he is reprising his role in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, which promises to bring the beloved stories to life with new depth and detail.
Davis recently shared insights into how this adaptation differs from the films. He described the episodes as “very faithful adaptations” of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy book series. “I’m working on it at the moment, but I can’t really tell you anything other than we’re retelling those wonderful stories but with more depth and detail than has been seen before,” he told Times Radio. “They’re very faithful adaptations of the book.”
Despite the similarities in the narrative, Davis noted that there are unique challenges and experiences when returning to the same set. “We’re obviously telling the same story so there are similar moments that we’re experiencing as actors on the set. But it’s weird being back in the same studios again, doing it all again, because Leavesden is where we shot the films.”
Davis first appeared as Professor Flitwick in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), and also played the role of Griphook, the goblin banker. In the new series, he will continue as Flitwick, while Leigh Gill will take on the role of Griphook.

The Impact of J.K. Rowling’s Views on the Production
The production of the Harry Potter series comes at a time when J.K. Rowling is facing significant backlash over her anti-transgender views. These views have sparked controversy among fans, peers, and even some stars of the franchise. Director Christopher Columbus has also been affected by this fallout.
Rowling has previously supported the UK Supreme Court ruling that prevents trans women from being legally recognized as women. This stance has led to criticism from many within the entertainment industry. Over 400 people signed a letter urging the UK’s film and television industry to take action on trans rights. Among those who signed the letter was Paapa Essiedu, who has been cast in the Harry Potter series as Professor Snape.
This context adds an extra layer of complexity to the production, as the creators and cast navigate the ongoing discussions around inclusivity and representation.
What to Expect from the New Series
While details about the plot remain under wraps, fans can expect a faithful yet expanded version of the original books. The series aims to bring the richly detailed world of Harry Potter to life with new visual storytelling and deeper character exploration.
The return of Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick is a nostalgic touch for long-time fans, and his experience in the original films brings a sense of continuity to the new adaptation. His insights into the process highlight the care taken to ensure that the series remains true to the source material while offering fresh perspectives.
As filming continues, the project remains one of the most anticipated releases in the fantasy genre. With a mix of familiar faces and new talent, the HBO Harry Potter series promises to be a compelling continuation of the beloved saga.
