Neal, a guest at the campus, shared his experience with WCCO. He described the choice between going home to an empty house or being among others. "I can go home and be by myself or be amongst people," he said. Being part of a community, even for a short time, can make a significant difference in one's emotional well-being.

Neal noted that while being alone can lead to feelings of loneliness, being with others can offer a sense of connection and hope. "When you're amongst people, you get negative energy, but you also get more positive energy," he explained.

On Christmas Day, over 300 guests were served a warm meal, thanks to the efforts of dedicated individuals. Some volunteers helped with cooking, while others assisted with serving meals. Higgins observed that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of people seeking assistance. "I have seen a higher number of individuals. I don't know why," she said. "But we do have a bit of a population uptick in our population coming through here."

"No matter where we are in life or the route we choose to take, there's always ups and downs," he said. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook and taking small, positive steps forward.
