Iran’s leadership has reacted strongly to recent threats from US President Donald Trump, who warned of potential intervention in response to ongoing protests. The situation has sparked a series of statements from Iranian officials, emphasizing their readiness to defend national sovereignty and warning against any foreign interference.
In a message on Truth Social, Trump stated, “If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go.” This statement was met with immediate backlash from Iranian authorities, who saw it as a provocative move that could escalate tensions in the region.
Iranian Officials Respond with Strong Warnings
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, responded by declaring that the country would not yield to its enemies. He said, “We won’t give in to them. With reliance on God & confidence in the people’s support, we’ll bring the enemy to its knees.” His words were echoed by other high-ranking officials, including Ali Larijani, Iran’s national security chief, who warned that American interference could lead to widespread disruption and damage to American interests.
Ali Shamkhani, a close adviser to Khamenei, emphasized that Iran’s national security is a "red line." He stated, “Every hand of intervention that approaches Iranian security…will be cut off with a regrettable response.” This sentiment was further reinforced by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, who warned that any US military presence in the Middle East could become a target if Washington intervenes in the country’s internal affairs.
Protests Continue Amid Rising Tensions
The unrest in Iran has led to widespread protests across several provinces, with some demonstrations turning deadly after clashes with police. In Tehran, dozens of people chanted slogans against the regime, while others marched through the streets demanding freedom and an end to authoritarian rule. Security forces responded with force, leading to incidents where protesters were detained or injured.
In the city of Azna, at least three people were killed and 17 others injured when protesters stormed a police station. Fars News Agency reported that the protesters clashed with law enforcement, threw stones, and set cars on fire. Similar incidents occurred in other cities, with unverified videos showing protesters confronting police and damaging government buildings.
International Reactions and Concerns
The US State Department expressed concern over the violence and called on Iranian authorities to end the crackdown. It stated, “First the bazaars. Then the students. Now the whole country. Iranians are united. Different lives, one demand: respect our voices and our rights.” Despite these concerns, no major changes in US troop levels have been reported, and officials have indicated that no direct action has been taken so far.
Analysts suggest that Trump’s threats create a complex strategic dilemma for Washington. If the US fails to act, it risks emboldening the Iranian regime and discouraging future dissent. However, meaningful intervention could lead to broader conflict with unpredictable consequences.

The protests represent the largest wave of unrest since the 2022 nationwide uprising triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini. Shopkeepers, bazaar merchants, and students have joined the movement, expressing frustration over economic conditions and the government's handling of the currency crisis.
