No Arrest in Shooting Death of 16-Year-Old Orange County Football Star

A Tragic Loss in Orange County
The community of Orange County is still reeling from the tragic shooting death of a 16-year-old high school student and football player, Raylin Harrison. His mother, Nivia Lampkin, has expressed her deep anguish over the loss of her son, who was in his junior year at Dr. Phillips High School. The incident has sparked a wave of grief and calls for action against gun violence.
A Promising Future Cut Short
Raylin was known for his talent on the football field, playing as a linebacker and running back. His potential was evident, with several colleges showing interest in his abilities. "He had all these colleges writing him," Lampkin shared, "and they were offering better deals just to have Raylin." His dreams of continuing his football career after high school are now left unfulfilled.
The tragedy struck five days ago when Lampkin received the devastating phone call that no parent should ever have to hear. She described the emotional toll of the situation, saying, "You know how devastated that is, to get that phone call and I got to fly to my kid and for me to be one minute late, one minute."
The Investigation Continues
Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene at the 1500 block of 26th Street around 9 p.m. on Sunday night, where they found Raylin had been shot. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. While the investigation is ongoing, Lampkin emphasized the urgency of finding those responsible. "I want it to happen now," she said, expressing her hope that witnesses will come forward to assist homicide detectives in obtaining an arrest warrant.
Lampkin also voiced her belief that people present at the house during the incident may have knowledge that could lead to justice. "They need to speak up," she added, highlighting the importance of community involvement in solving the case.
Grief and Memories
Instead of watching her son pursue his football dreams, Lampkin is now preparing for his funeral. The emotional struggle is palpable, especially in the mornings when she would normally wake him up for practice. "It's hurtful, and it's harder in the morning time when I supposed to be waking him up to go to practice," she said. Despite the pain, she finds comfort in the love and support from everyone who knew Raylin.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not provided new updates on the investigation as of Friday afternoon. Deputies are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
A Community in Mourning
Family and friends of Raylin are planning to gather for a balloon release in his memory on Friday evening. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the young life lost and the impact he had on those around him.
As the community mourns, there is a growing demand for action against gun violence and a desire for justice for Raylin. The search for answers continues, and the hope remains that those involved will be held accountable for their actions.
