Michigan OL Andrew Sprague enters transfer portal

Andrew Sprague Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Andrew Sprague, a standout offensive lineman for the University of Michigan, has entered the NCAA transfer portal. This move comes as part of a broader shift within the program, with several players considering their next steps. Sprague, who was tagged with a "do not contact" status, is now looking for new opportunities.
Sprague had an impressive redshirt freshman season in 2025, serving as the starting right tackle for the Wolverines. His performance earned him an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection from both coaches and media. He also shared the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award after Michigan's victory over Nebraska.
In his first year as a true freshman in 2024, Sprague appeared in four games on the offensive line. He made his first career start during the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. With three years of eligibility remaining, Sprague has plenty of time to find a new home.
Staying Updated on Transfer Activity
For those interested in tracking the latest movements in college football, following the Transfer Portalwire is a great option. The Transfer Portal Instagram account and Twitter account are also valuable resources for staying up-to-date with the latest player transfers and developments.
Sprague played high school football at Rockhurst in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a highly touted four-star prospect, ranking as the No. 107 overall player and No. 7-ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
Michigan’s Transition Period
Sprague is the tenth Michigan player to either announce his departure or enter the transfer portal this season. This group includes cornerback Zeke Berry, who was also recognized as an All-Big Ten selection.
Michigan is currently navigating a period of transition following the unexpected firing of head coach Sherrone Moore last month. The team made a significant move by hiring former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham as their new head coach. Whittingham recently held his introductory press conference and was introduced to University of Michigan fans at the basketball game on Friday night, alongside new members of his coaching staff.
New Coaching Staff Hires
The Wolverines have announced several coordinator hires. Jason Beck is joining from Utah, where he worked closely with Whittingham this past season. Additionally, former BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill is taking on the same role with the Wolverines.
Kerry Coombs, who was recently named Michigan’s special teams coordinator, was also present at the basketball game. However, the university has not yet officially announced Coombs as part of Whittingham’s new coaching staff.
Utah’s offense, led by Beck and dual-threat quarterback Devon Dampier, ranked as the best in the Big 12 this past season. The Utes averaged 482.9 yards per game and scored 41.3 points per contest, which was the top in the conference.
Now, Whittingham and Beck are set to work with another talented dual-threat quarterback, Bryce Underwood. Retaining Underwood will be essential as Whittingham takes over the program. Whittingham has already met with Underwood multiple times to discuss the future of the offense.
