McDonald’s Workers in Portland Face $3.5M Settlement Offer

Oregon Employees May Be Eligible for Class Action Lawsuit
PORTLAND, Ore. — A group of Oregon employees working at a fast food chain might be eligible for a class action lawsuit. The potential compensation could reach up to $872.49 for those who have worked at McDonald’s locations in the Multnomah County area since March 8, 2014. This comes after two local franchisees agreed to a $3.55 million settlement.
Understanding the Settlement
Under Oregon law, employers are required to pay workers for breaks that last less than 30 minutes during shifts that are at least six hours long. A lawsuit filed in August 2020 accused the owners of several McDonald’s restaurants—identified as UTB Enterprises and Goldenband LLC—of failing to compensate their staff properly for the time they were clocked in throughout the workweek.
The owners “deny any wrongdoing and agreed to settle this case to avoid the continued costs of litigation in their retirement years,” said attorney Sean P. Ray in a statement to KOIN 6. He added, “Prior to their retirement a couple of years ago, my clients had an exemplary record of treating employees very well for over four decades, and this settlement does not tarnish that reputation.”
Affected Locations and Employees
Although the complaint does not specify which locations were affected, it notes that the franchisees operated around 19 locations in the area. Additional documents also mention hundreds of people who may be eligible for the settlement.
Claim Submission Deadline
March 8, 2026, is the final day to submit a claim to join the class action suit. According to the settlement website, impacted employees have already received a claim form in the mail. Those who haven’t received one or have lost theirs should contact the settlement administrator at 1-833-419-0987.
The website also states that $872.49 is the maximum amount that could be distributed to current and former employees who submit a claim. However, eligible individuals who do not submit a claim or object to the settlement will receive $31.14.
What Employees Need to Know
Employees who believe they may be affected by this settlement should act quickly. The deadline is approaching, and missing it could mean losing out on potential compensation. It’s important to review the claim form carefully and follow the instructions provided.
- If you have received a claim form, make sure to complete it and return it by the deadline.
- If you haven’t received a form, contact the settlement administrator immediately.
- Consider reaching out to an attorney if you have questions about your eligibility or the process.
This settlement highlights the importance of understanding labor laws and knowing your rights as an employee. Employers must adhere to state regulations regarding break times and wages, and employees should be aware of their options when these rules are not followed.
