Free Suicide Prevention Training Available in Pensacola and Milton

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The United Way of West Florida is offering free training sessions focused on suicide prevention. These sessions aim to equip individuals and organizations with the knowledge and tools needed to identify warning signs and take proactive steps in supporting those at risk.
The training program, known as QPR, stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. It is a straightforward three-step approach designed to help participants recognize potential signs of suicidal behavior and guide individuals toward appropriate resources. This training is available to any organization or school that wishes to enhance its mental health support systems.
"Through a short training, you’ll learn how to recognize warning signs, offer hope, and connect someone to the help they need," according to the United Way of West Florida.
Participants will receive a QPR booklet and a resource card after completing the session. These materials provide essential information to assist in navigating mental health crises. While the training is not a substitute for professional counseling, it serves as a practical tool for connecting individuals in crisis with the right support.
For those interested in becoming a QPR gatekeeper, several training sessions are scheduled at two locations:
