First Set of Twins Born in 2026 in North Texas

Elliot and William, each weighing just over 3 pounds, have made history as the first set of twins born in 2026 in North Texas. Their arrival on New Year's Day marked a significant milestone for their parents, Elizabeth and Ed Evans, who welcomed their sons at Baylor Scott White Medical Center in Grapevine.

Elizabeth had been under close observation in the hospital's labor and delivery unit for approximately 20 days, as doctors monitored her and the babies for any potential complications. She went into labor around 11 p.m. on December 31, and the twins were delivered via cesarean section. The couple had hoped to have the babies born around 32 weeks, but the twins arrived one week earlier than expected.

"It was a very anxious moment, because we never knew if we were going to make it to a point where we are right now," Elizabeth said. "But I think the group of nurses and doctors, the care that they provided, really gave me peace of mind. They were very friendly, and I was always well taken care of. I was praying a lot, and I trusted the doctors and the nurses."

Ed Evans shared his sentiments about the difficult time his wife endured while being confined to bed for so long. He praised the nurses and the medical team at Baylor Grapevine for their exceptional care.

The first baby was born at 1:16 a.m., followed by the second at 1:18 a.m. on New Year's Day. The family described the experience as a mix of anxiety and relief, especially after hearing from the medical team that the twins were doing well.

"It's been three-plus weeks of a little bit of anxiety, wondering, under observation," Ed said. "Then to hear the nurses and team, once they are out here in the real world saying that they're in a good place, and we can see them and hopefully touch [them], do skin-to-skin later today is fantastic news."

Ed, originally from England, and Elizabeth, from Mexico, are first-time parents who have been married for three years. They have relied heavily on their community for support during this challenging time.

"I just think when you're going through something like this, when families are on the other side of the world, it's amazing to have sort of an adopted family, helping and supporting you here in Texas."

The twins are expected to remain in the neonatal intensive care unit for three to five weeks, as they continue to grow and develop. Their arrival has already brought joy and celebration to their family and the broader community.

The Journey to Parenthood

Elizabeth and Ed’s journey to parenthood has been filled with both challenges and moments of hope. From the early stages of pregnancy, they were aware of the risks involved, which led to extended hospital stays and constant monitoring. Despite the uncertainty, the couple remained optimistic, relying on the support of their medical team and their growing network of friends and neighbors.

Their story highlights the importance of a strong support system, especially for first-time parents navigating the complexities of high-risk pregnancies. The Evans family has found strength in their community, which has played a vital role in helping them cope with the emotional and physical demands of this chapter in their lives.

As they look ahead, the couple is focused on the future of their newborns. They are grateful for the care provided by the medical staff at Baylor Scott White Medical Center and are hopeful that their sons will soon be able to go home.
