Downtown Clarksburg Unveils New Art Gallery on First Friday

CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) - Downtown Clarksburg kicked off the new year with a vibrant celebration on Thursday, marking the return of the monthly community gathering known as First Friday. The event brought together residents and visitors for a night filled with live music, food, drinks, and local art.
The festivities took place at Maya’s on Main, where attendees enjoyed live performances alongside a variety of food and beverage options. Other businesses along Main Street also participated in the event, contributing to the lively atmosphere that defined the evening.
Michael Spatafore, co-chair of the First Friday Committee, shared his excitement about the upcoming events throughout 2026. He explained that the committee had considered whether to hold the event every month or not. However, they decided to continue the monthly tradition after Christmas, as it provided an opportunity for people to enjoy time outside their homes.
“We’ve debated about whether we should do it every month or not, but we figured right after Christmas that people might want to get out of the house a little bit, so we do it every month,” Spatafore said. “It’s not always on the first Friday, but usually the first Friday of every month.”
In addition to the live entertainment, the event also marked the opening of a new location for a local art gallery. The gallery relocated from Merchants Bank to the James and Law Company Building, offering a fresh space for artists to showcase their work.
The gallery features pieces from local artists who aim to highlight the beauty of West Virginia through paintings and photographs. Each month, new artwork is displayed, ensuring that the collection remains dynamic and engaging for visitors.
“I think it’s really important for the community, and I think it’s a great place for local artists to present their art for people to see it and buy it,” said LeeAnn Romeo, a local artist who participated in the event.
The success of the First Friday event has become a staple in the downtown area, drawing crowds and fostering a sense of community among residents. The event not only celebrates local talent but also supports local businesses by encouraging foot traffic and engagement.
Looking ahead, the next First Friday event is scheduled for February 7, when Robinson Grand will host the 3rd Annual Pepperoni Roll and Pizza Palooza. This annual celebration of West Virginia’s iconic pepperoni roll and pizza will add another layer of excitement to the ongoing series of community events.
As the First Friday Committee continues to plan and execute these gatherings, the focus remains on creating opportunities for residents to come together, support local businesses, and appreciate the cultural offerings of the area. With each event, the spirit of the community grows stronger, reinforcing the importance of these monthly celebrations in the heart of downtown Clarksburg.
