Dead man found after police chase in Grand Forks County

GRAND FORKS, ND — A dramatic vehicle pursuit concluded with a tragic outcome on Thursday evening along Interstate 29 in Grand Forks County. The incident began when the North Dakota Highway Patrol received a 911 call at 5:39 p.m., reporting a driver behaving erratically within the county.
Law enforcement officers were able to locate the vehicle near mile marker 138 on I-29. At this point, the vehicle came to a stop before the trooper had the chance to activate emergency lights. According to the police report, the trooper approached the vehicle and requested the driver to exit. However, the driver refused and instead chose to flee.
The pursuit lasted approximately one mile before the vehicle became stuck in the median. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the driver deceased. Importantly, no law enforcement officers discharged their weapons during the incident.
Interstate 29 was temporarily closed at 6 p.m. and later reopened to one lane by 6:20 p.m. as crews worked to clear the area and resume normal traffic flow.
