"Instead, we are doing large asphalt repair, kind of patching the worst parts of the streets."

Schneider added that the current state of road maintenance makes potholes more likely than they were a decade ago. "These are tough times, and scheduled to get worse next year in the budget," he said. His concerns reflect a broader sentiment among residents who are frustrated with the lack of long-term solutions for road infrastructure.

Caltrans Responds to Pothole Reports

Caltrans has reported receiving 89 pothole reports across Los Angeles, Ventura, and Kern counties, with 81 of those in LA County alone. To address the immediate needs of drivers, the agency has opted for temporary repairs using cold-mixed asphalt. "It is called cold-mixed asphalt, until we can go back in and do a hot-mix asphalt which adheres a little bit better," said Caltrans spokesperson Katy Macek.

This approach allows for quicker fixes but is not a permanent solution. The use of cold-mixed asphalt is a temporary measure that may need to be repeated as weather conditions continue to affect road surfaces.
