Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 Foreshadows Two Major Deaths Before Finale

The Final Season of "Stranger Things" and the Possibility of Major Character Deaths
Ahead of the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things," the co-creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have been cautious about discussing potential character deaths. While the show has previously eliminated beloved characters, the Duffer Brothers have emphasized that any such decisions would be made with care and purpose, not for shock value or to satisfy audience expectations.
"We just always want to think ahead and not just do it to shock people or because people have a bloodlust, which they seem to have," the pair shared in an interview. "We want to make sure that if someone dies like Eddie, who we killed last season, his death resonates throughout the course of Season 5."
This statement has left fans both relieved and anxious, especially after watching Volume 2 of the final season. The episode has introduced several ominous hints that could lead to major character deaths, particularly for Eleven and Kali.
Eleven and Kali: A Dangerous Path
After Eleven and Hopper rescue Kali from the military's Upside Down headquarters, Kali reveals to Eleven that she was being used solely for her blood. Dr. Kay kept Kali hooked up to numerous IVs, and Kali later discovered that her blood was being transfused to countless pregnant women in an effort to create more people like her. This is essentially a new version of the same secret government program that created Henry (aka Vecna), Eleven, Kali, and others.
In a heart-wrenching conversation during the penultimate episode, Kali tells Eleven that the only way to stop the cycle of government-created monsters is for both of them to die. She explains that even if the lab is destroyed or Dr. Kay is killed, the government will simply create another one. Even if Eleven escapes to a peaceful place with Mike, the government will find her again, restarting the process.
"Don't you see, Jane? It's a cycle. A terrible, vicious cycle," Kali says. "But we can stop it tonight. ... After we kill [Henry], after the children are rescued, we don't leave with the others. We stay on the bridge. When the Upside Down vanishes, so will we. It is the only way, Jane. The only way."
Kali and Eleven's conversation is interrupted by Murray just as it reaches this harrowing climax, and the girls don't get much of a chance to address their fates again before the episode ends. As Eleven, Kali, and the rest of the group prepare for their final showdown with Vecna, the show has yet to present any alternative options that would both destroy the Upside Down and keep Eleven and Kali forever safe from the military's clutches.
The Final Showdown
As the series approaches its finale, fans are left wondering whether the show will take the drastic step of killing off Eleven and/or Kali. While there is hope that the characters will survive, the implications of their potential deaths are significant. Their fates could mark the end of the cycle of government experiments and the destruction of the Upside Down.
The final episode of "Stranger Things" is set to air on New Year's Eve at 8 p.m. ET, and fans are eagerly awaiting the resolution of these intense storylines. Whether Eleven and Kali will live or die remains a mystery, but the stakes have never been higher.
What do you think, "Stranger Things" fans? Will the show really go there by killing Eleven and/or her sister? Or will they find another way to win this battle once and for all? Share your theories below.
