Lee Ji-ae and Kim Young-dae Embrace Their Daughters in Emotional Shock
Lee Ji-ae, a well-known broadcaster, shared heartfelt memories of the late Kim Young-dae, a respected music critic who passed away unexpectedly. On December 26th, Lee expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "Yeongdae teacher, I still can't believe it. It was a Christmas when my heart collapsed because I kept on crying." He continued, "They sent me a new book just a while ago. I haven't even sent you an answer yet saying I received it well. The obituary text I received on Christmas morning still has no sense of reality."
Lee described visiting the place where Kim's profile picture, which he had always seen, was uploaded as a portrait. "What is this? Why are you there like that?" he asked, expressing his emotional pain. He also recalled the time they spent together while hosting the Emmy Awards, highlighting how their collaboration made the three-hour live broadcast feel effortless.
"I hugged my two young daughters at the mortuary yesterday, and I couldn't stop crying because of the bewilderment of how we met like this," Lee said. "How much I expected the children to spend Christmas with their busy dad, and I felt sorry and sorry for the silence now, because of my music-loving dad, music would always have flowed to my teacher's house."
He added, "Dad held hands and told me how many times he usually talked about his proud daughters and how wonderful he was, but I kept crying, so I probably looked stupid." Lee also reflected on how Kim had always been a reliable source for him during their time working together on the Emmy Awards. "If I hosted it with the teacher, the three-hour live broadcast passed in an instant, and there was no worry about unexpected situations. I was often surprised by the extensive knowledge that came out when I poked it."
The photo released along with the condolence letter showed Kim smiling, adding to the sadness surrounding his passing.
Kim Young-dae, who passed away on December 24th at the age of 48, was known for his active presence on social media even the day before his death. He graduated from Yonsei University with a business degree and earned a Ph.D. in music anthropology from the University of Washington in the United States. Kim contributed music columns to New York magazine 'vulture' and MTV's official account, and gained recognition through domestic television broadcasts of the American Popular Music Awards, including the Billboard Music Awards, 'American Music Awards,' and 'Grammy Awards.'
His recent book, "The Songwriters: Languages of Love Written in Songs," was released last month and became a posthumous work. The mortuary for Kim was set up at the funeral hall of Chung-Ang University Hospital, and the funeral mass will be held at Heukseok-dong Cathedral at 10 a.m. on December 27th.
