Laredo Woman Arrested for Vehicle Burglary

On Saturday, December 20, at approximately 10:58 p.m., law enforcement officers in Laredo, Texas, responded to a reported vehicle burglary at a gas station located on the 1200 block of E. Saunders Street. A caller reported seeing someone sitting in the rear seat of her Ford Explorer, which was parked near the fuel pumps. The individual was not authorized to be inside the vehicle. When the owner returned to check, she identified the person as a 43-year-old woman named Esmeralda Ramos.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with Ramos. She denied being inside any vehicle. However, surveillance footage from the gas station captured Ramos approaching the Explorer, looking inside, and scanning the area on two separate occasions. Shortly after, a white automobile pulled up beside the Explorer. Upon noticing the vehicle, Ramos opened the Explorer’s door and shut it quickly two more times, resulting in a total of three door openings. After this, she entered the store, purchased a bag of ice, and immediately reentered the back seat of the Explorer.

Earlier that evening, Ramos had been asked to leave another establishment due to causing a disturbance. Officers who arrived at the scene observed signs of intoxication. This information may have played a role in her actions later that night.

Ramos was arrested at the location on the 1200 block of E. Saunders Street. She was charged with burglary of a vehicle and criminal trespass. Following her arrest, she was taken to the Laredo Police Department headquarters and later transported to the Webb County Jail.

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and quick response by both citizens and law enforcement. The use of surveillance footage was critical in confirming the events that took place and providing evidence for the charges against Ramos. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of unauthorized access to vehicles and the potential risks associated with impaired behavior in public spaces.
